What We Do

We seek to collaborate with neighborhoods, municipal governments, businesses, community organizations and individuals to address the need for affordable housing by acquiring land and developing housing that low to medium income residents can afford to buy in the Greater Portland area.

Our Mission

Our Mission is to create housing in the greater Portland area on land permanently preserved by the Community Land Trust that enables people of moderate means to reside in our community.

We are a non-profit, membership-based organization which democratically elects our leadership to represent homeowners, the neighborhoods in which our properties are located and interested residents from the community.

We believe that by increasing opportunities for people to procure the housing they need. We will make the Portland area an economically and culturally diverse and vibrant place to live.

What we are working on

In response to a Request for Proposal issued by the City of Portland in 2020, GPCLT submitted a winning proposal, acquiring City owned land on which to develop affordable housing. We are now seeking funding to build 1, 2 and 3 bedroom units that working families can afford to buy. Although we have funding commitments from Portland and MaineHousing, we still need to raise a substantial sum from foundations and individual donors. If you would like to help GPCLT bring this important project to fruition, become a member or make a donation

Next Steps

As we work to build our first affordable housing project in Portland, we are keeping an eye out for opportunities to develop similar projects in surrounding towns. Over 60 families have filled out a questionnaire to show an interest in our Robinia Commons homes in Portland. For those low to moderate income families who cannot be accommodated in our first project, GPCLT will work to create homes for them in our next project.
